okay just to make sure i remember from flashing etc on my d1 days:

1: backup ofcourse, no need to go into detail
2: actually ill probably be going with the "easy 3 step rooting process"
3: this is where my memory is hazy, at this point do i install rom manager and flash the clockwork custom recovery? or can i go straight from the recovery already on there to flash a rom? I guess im a little confused as to what to do precisely after I have acquired root using this method. do i need to flash an alternate recovery than stock? thanks in advance, sorry im having a hard time linking the steps together from all the different threads

I would recommend doing the adb root. It's quicker and if something goes wrong, you will know what to do. With an easy root you are just relying on a script. But anyway... Once you are rooted, you need to download Super User from the market. Then download ROM Manager from the market. Inside ROM Manager, the first button is Flash Clockwork Recovery. Press it. It will ask for the phone Model.. should say HTC Thunderbolt. Press it. It should then start flashing the recovery.

At some point it will ask for Super user permissions, when it does hit yes.

Sent from my BAMFed out Thunderbolt
