Random Reboots Daily, Power button issue - Should I exchange it?

So my nexus is rebooting on its own daily. It will just be sitting there and all of a sudden the screen will come on with the startup colors. That and my power button sometimes doesn't want to turn the screen off. It takes 3 or 4 pushes sometimes. Should I do a factory reset (if so how) or just exchange it? I bought it at BB so I have 30 day exchange. The only thing that bugs me about exchanging is I just put my skinomi SP on :(

Thanks,
Mike

This is the easiest time you'll ever have to swap. Even if you can manage to fix yourself, save the heroics for when you don't have any options. Get a new one while you can.

I'd return it while you can. While I'm sure there are plenty of things you could try...why risk getting stuck with a lemon when you can return it for a new phone? My phone has been rock stable since I got it and has never rebooted by itself (yet).

Yes you can always exchange it. But if it were mine I would do a factory data reset first. All a reset does is reload your entire system fresh which can correct many issues. To do a reset all you have to do is go into settings, backup and reset, then click "Factory data reset" and follow instructions. If you have any pictures or files you want saved, save them to your computer because a factory data reset will wipe your entire phone clean just like you just got a new one.

When you flash roms and such your "virtual" sd card does not get wiped, but it does when you factory reset and when you unlock the bootloader.

So if you ever intend to root and stuff I would unlock the bootloader before you set up your phone and apps to save some work.

Sorry for the ramble, but I'd exchange the phone also.... then unlock the bootloader right away... :)

Thanks, I was just making sure it wasn't something easy. Yea my sisters Nexus has been pretty solid. So tomorrow I will go in and get an exchange, then unlock it!

Thanks again!

Yes I was getting some random reboots as well. Didn't really have issues with the power button although it did not feel nearly as nice as my volume buttons felt, so maybe it was a little bit out of the ordinary I'm not sure.

Either way, definitely exchange it. Shouldn't have to deal with your phone turning itself off and on as it pleases! I am waiting for a replacement as well from VZW. It is going to be a "certified like new" one, but as long as it isn't cosmetically damaged and works better than my current device, I'll be happy! Although they did say with how new it is I'll most likely receive a new one.

So on Saturday I did a factory reset to wipe all my data so Best Buy wouldn't have it. So I go in to exchange it and they give me the whole spiel of "we have to see the problem". I tell him I just did a factory wipe and its probably not going to act up, just like taking a car for warranty work. So he boots it up and plays with the power button for about 5 minutes then tells me he has to have geek squad look at it. I am preparing for a fight on this one, a $300 phone with a 30 exchange policy, I shouldn't have to fight. Its not like I am going for a different phone. Well he gets back and gets out a new one! So yea I am happy. I picked up the extended Warranty to for $170 for 2 years.

So now I am unlocked, rooted, and nandroid backuped.

Thanks guys!
Mike

That is great! I hope it works better than the first!

I am waiting on a replacement from verizon at the moment. Actually had a pretty poor experience with support this time. Talked to them on Wednesday and they told me they were sending a replacement free of charge and I would have it Friday at 3. I never received any information about shipping nor did anything show up online on my account so Friday around 3 I called about it. The person I spoke to, despite giving them the order number from the previous call did not know what was going on. They asked me if I would like to be charged for the device on my account and when I said it was a replacement they said my account already showed an exchange, which is correct, but still not what I was doing. I had to explain that there were issues with the phone for a second time and that I had already been told a replacement was being sent. It was quite frustrating, but the woman ensured me she would have one sent out and it should be here tomorrow.

I can't help but worry that the same thing will happen and I'm going to have to call in again. I also don't want to go to a store as usually my store doesn't want to do anything on my account since its under a business account even though I have the required information to make changes...

I got mine on Dec15, so I have until Jan15 to exchange for a BNIB GNex if I wish...

I haven't had any issues that have been really pestering me, but I have had maybe 2 random-reboots (none in the last week), a battery that lasts shorter than most (I can go from full to empty within 2.5-3hrs of internet browsing, wifi/gps turned of, only sync/4g on, screen brightness at 25-30% always) so I ALWAYS have my charger and car-adapter in my jacket pocket, and maybe once or twice, a random "hangup" in that I'll tell it to do something and it will take a second or so to respond.

I am wondering, though, if those are issues that are worth an exchange or if I got a "good one"? Any thoughts?

(Didn't want to start a new thread just about this)
