The way I do it is...once again this is what i do. I'm sure you'll get other
suggestions. I have "Note everything", that allows me to record audio
and include it in a "note" or memo.

This may not be the route YOU want to go, but i have a folder filled
with different sound bites made with "note everything" - it can be found
in the, "market place".

Thanks for the feedback. I'd like to be able to ultimately send the recorded audio through a text message. Will the suggestions you mentioned work for that?

I'm new to the Droid but every other phone I've had has had something built into it to allow for recording audio and then sending the saved sound through text.

What about jott.com? That's not a Droid app, and it's now a pay service, but I think it would do what you want -- dial jott, and your voice message will be converted to text and delivered to the addressee (phone or e-mail) of your choice.
