recurring calendar entries

i create recurring calendar entries as reminders, but wen i try to delete old/past events the only options i have are:

delete this and future events
delete all

not sure why it wont let me delete just a single reminder from a series ... i've been able to once or twice before in the past ....

no one else has experienced this problem ? is it a problem, or am i doing something wrong when creating a series ?
