remove ALL contacts

I have a large number of contacts in my droid2 (2200+). I believe this is impacting system performance especially in contact related apps. I would like to remove them ALL and start over. Is there a way to do this?

Other than delete them all from your gmail account (I am assuming you are synced with google) you can delete them one by one or hard reset the device.

Yes, this is what I did, and it worked. I now have about 1100 synced back and I think the phone is running a bit smoother.
