Removing Docked Icons

Hi All! New to this forum and new to Android! Coming from an Iphone and happily moving to the BEST platform!

Question: I want to remove the two "docked" icons on the homescreen. The phone and contacts seem to be "anchored" and can only be removed by installing a custom skin with a program such as Pandahome. Well, I want to keep my ability to completely customize everything and don't want to skin the phone. But, I do want to get rid of these two icons. Can I do it?

Thanks for the help!

If you want to keep the stock homescreen, then no, you cannot remove the two icons. You could go with a homescreen replacement like LauncherPro or ADW.launcher. Both are actually very fast and very customizable. However, you can add the Motorola widgets, but you cannot manipulate them like you can with the stock launcher.
