Replacing Cracked Screen

So my Motorola Droid has been dropped the screen is cracked rather bad. So I have an old Droid that had a good screen but no longer functioning. I have taken it apart to use the screen and casing. I ripped the black cable taking it all apart. Since this was an old phone I didn't seem to care too much. Going forward I don't want to experience the same thing on the phone that actually works.

Has anyone had success replacing screens?

I am not sure I want to attempt this.
