rom manager not backing up

i click "back up rom," i type in the name and click ok. it freezes for two seconds and in those two seconds i hear little clicks. kind of like the ones when you touch the menu, back, and recent apps buttons. then the phone just shuts off and the the google sign with the unlocked lock comes up then i have to start the phone up again. when the phone shuts off it makes a "popping" noise, like if you turn a stereo up loud then unplug it.

I never use Rom Manager to make backups. It is my advice that you reboot into CWM with Rom Manager and then navigate to Backup & Restore with the volume keys, press Power Button and then select Backup with the power button. After backup is complete scroll down to "Go Back" and then use power button to select Reboot to system. If you decide to use a file manager to rename the backups (/sdcard/Clockworkmod/backup) be sure to use no blank spaces or unusual characters.
