Roms affecting battery life?

Has anyone noticed a difference in battery life running roms other than stock? If you did would you say its worth flashing? I've had a flashed and rooted droid 1&2 but I dont feel comfortable diving into my new X after reading all of the horror stories of phones bricking but the battery life is just awful compared to my old phones so far. Thanks in advance.

Apex battery life is the best. Its based on the .596 version of Gingerbread. It is super fast and smooth. I would definitely recommend it

There are some roms that have better battery life then others if you really want the most out of your battery life then I'd say go with liberty I use to get about 12+ hours with heavy usage and it's still pretty customizable.
