Will I be able to root after 2.3 Gingerbread, or will I have to wait til someone comes out with an updated root faq? Also, just wanted to say that you all are awesome and amazing. I have found so many great apps and have gotten so much help by looking in this forum. Hats off to y'all. :)

I don't have the Eris. I have the X with 2.2. Does it say I have the Eris still? Shoot, I forgot to change that. LOL

Yeah, it's called Gingerbread and it will be out very soon... from what I have been seeing and reading, in the next week or so. But don't quote me. I wouldn't say it is a major overhaul like 2.2 was, but it will fix a few bugs that were in 2.2, from what I have read.

I think you're confusing Gingerbread with the forthcoming Motorola 2.2 patch for the Droid X. The patch is coming (or has been rumored to be coming) in the next couple of weeks. Gingerbread, which will be a major overhaul, has no official release time table. Once it's released, it will likely be a few months before we get it for the X.

The next update will most likely just be for bug fixes for froyo. Gingerbread will be released with tablets before it hit Droid devices and most likely after January. This is only a guesstimate by me:)

Yeah what he said, true statement.

To piggyback...if vzw is coming out with a patch for 2.2...all us rooted folk are up the creek right? Ota is ota no matter what is being pushed, right?

I'd bet within hours of the patch being released, it will be reworked to preserve root for you. Keep an eye open in the root threads once people start getting the update.

I agree with the above. I don't think we are ever really "up the creek." Unless you happen to drop it in the creek. Think a patch will come out to make it root friendly.

Up The Creek was a great movie:)

Lol. I actually never saw that movie. Anyways, yeah...I'm positive that someone will dev whatever it takes to preserve the root function. Just worried about what it'll take to get the ota when it shows....

I'm still running 2.1. With this patch coming out for 2.2, should I just wait to update? Also, I assume once the patch is out it will part of the 2.2 update?

Possibly, but it all depends on how nice they want to be at release. Chances are it will be an incremental update so you would have to update to 2.2 then apply this next fix.
