Root Explorer issues with renaming apps

So I got the official VZW update and finally got my device rooted again (Thank God). Now I want to remove some of the bloatware by simply renaming the apps. I did this easily using Root Explorer when I had 2.1. I can verify I have root since I can browse my system folders. The issue that I have is that I cannot mount the system/app folder (or any other system folder) with Root Explorer. I click on the button at the top and nothing happens. I really want to get some of these apps off. Any idea or other ways to rename the apps?

Also, I have version 2.12 of Root Explorer.

use titanium backup to "freeze" the apps. does the same thing as renaming and is simpler to put back, IMO

it might be bc 2.2 is odexed so you might not be doing it properly
