Root not letting me connect to Google

I have 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. The other day, I think maybe last week or so, my friend rooted my phone for me. As of sunday, the 4G symbol has stayed white instead of turning to blue which it should do. I have access to all of my apps and the internet, but I can't use Google play, the app or the website. It does the same thing if I'm connected to Wi-Fi too. Do I have to unroot my phone? Or is there anyway I can get my internet to work for Google again? (also, I have no way to connect to 3G)
