The Huawei Mate 8 was shown off at CES the other day. It basically looks like a Nexus 6P with a janky Android overlay. Huawei's EMUI is not my favorite with its heavy theming and lack of an app drawer. It can quickly become a mess depending on how many apps you have installed on your phone. If you are interested in rooting the Mate 8 so you can make some changes you will have to wait a bit for a viable method.
The Huawei Mate 8 does have a locked bootloader. Apparently there is not a button combination to get into recovery or fastboot mode in order to attempt to oem unlock the device. You can request an unlock key for your phone from Huawei by providing them with your phone's IMEI and some other information. So far there is no custom recovery.
