When the new ICS update hits, after June 12- and you have a rooted phone can you just update? Im sure root will be lost.

Or do you have to unroot to get the new update.

Sorry if this was asked before.

Most of the time you can take an update while rooted. You will usually lose root. I have seen it happen where some have taken an update without losing root. It usually doesn't last or they actually lost root and didn't know it. If you changed anything else and are not completely stock besides root you will have to go back to stock before taking your update.

You can save root my voodoo root protector. You back up su and then unroot before taking the update. You have to be completely stock without. In other words have all the bloatware intact

So what happens if your rooted and you get a notification that there is new software to download? Would you not be able to update? Will the phone be bricked?

I'm asking because I am to lazy to unroot the phone. Besides, I am on a mac and most utility need to use a PC to run the software. I figure if I can just run the software update and get ICS then root the phone again using similar methods then it would be just easier.

There's no guarantee that you'll be able to root again (at least for awhile) after the OTA ICS update. If you want to keep root after the update, use Voodoo OTA RootKeeper like TRIKOTRET said.

If you're rooted and get a notification to update, as long as you haven't made any major changes to the stock software, you should be able to install the update without any problems. You'll just lose root. That said, with other phones there have been instances when problems arose after people installed an OTA update while rooted. It doesn't happen very often, but it is possible. Since the update will break root anyway, I think it's always a good idea to unroot before updating, whether you straight up unroot or do a temporary unroot with Voodoo to preserve root access for ICS.

I unrooted following instructions use ADB. Everything went well until I rebooted everything works fine, but SuperUser was still there in the app drawer. It didn't work when I ran it, it kept closing. All my root programs- wifi tether told me I didn't have superuser permission.

So I simply uninstalled the SuperUser program.

So I am assuming I am unrooted now. Is there a way to check without using ADB again?
