Rooted phone - will not encrypt

I tried encrypting my phone a few times and it won't encrypt. I read some other postings which said the rooted phones may not always encrypt.

Are there any reliable apps I could use to encrypt the entire contents of the phone - emails, contacts, calendar etc? Do they work in a similar fashion to the native encryption?

I am running Android 4.3

Thanks

when you root you basically already "hacked" the device. If you want your device to be truly secure and encrypted then you need to unroot or have a device (ie nexus) that is for rooting and modding and get maybe a tablet or another primary device that is encrypted for maximum security.

I understand that but my question was about any other apps out there which would allow me to encrypt my emails, contacts etc?

Would appreciate if anyone has information on this point.
