Rooted X Question

There's a guy on Craig's List selling a Droid X rooted with Callogen--I think that's what he said. He said it runs great and is asking a fair price (I think). Is this something we need to stay away from, or can the X be returned to stock if necessary?
TIA

I think you mean Cyanogenmod.

The phone can be returned to stock pretty easily, how much is the guy asking for it?

If he has cyanogen mod rom its not stock. he would have needed to create a nandroid backup of the stock rom in order to get it back to stock.

or he could SBF flash it to stock, which would be the first thing I did once I got it home anyway, then I'd re root it myself and flash CM7 or whatever other ROM I wanted

Well, I guess that explains why I couldn't find "Callogen" regarding rooting droids when I searched prior to posting LOL! The seller wants $120 with an otterbox. I'm looking for something decent for my 16 year old, without spending a fortune right now. His dad, older brother, and I just got Bionics, and am trying to get him close to up-to-speed as the rest of us without buying him one too. He's the only one left with the Palm Pre which is dying an ugly death. Any and all suggestions are more than welcome.
BTW, we don't modify our devices, so rooting is very foreign to me.

120 for a DX and an Otterbox case that's a good deal. But first ask him if he has a Wall charger USB combo charger and what size SD card that the phone has in it.

When the X originally came out it shipped with a 16GB SD card. Then it dropped to an 8 and I believe before it was retired from Verizon stores it only included a 2GB sd card.

that's true, find out what kind of accessories it comes with. The first Droid X's did come with a 16 GB card but the last ones before it was discontinued only included a 2 GB card

Since rooting is very foreign to you you'll probably want to just bring the phone back to stock and leave it. That isn't hard to do at all, with a few pieces of software it can be done with just one click

Are the "few pieces of software" easily obtainable?

I'll text the guy and ask him about the card and chargers. I seem to remember he included the chargers, but have no clue about what size the card is. From what I'm reading here, the price is fair & the phone can be brought back to stock.

Does the size of the card make that much difference?

To sbf and bring it back to stock, just follow one of the links in my signature below this post. Its not that hard.

The SD Card is a nice feature for a larger one because a 2 GB card is not that much at all. I have the 16 GB and have used most of it. If he likes music, 2 GB will be used fast.

the few pieces of software you need are easy to find, first link in Brad's signature is all you need

I've got a 16 GB card that's pretty much full, and I use it for music and as a small drive to carry files I need for work and school. Depending on what your son would use it for, he could probably fill up 2 GB the very first day

EBay has pretty good deals on SD Cards. I bought a 4 gig a couple years ago for around $10 or so.

cool, my bad ..

Thanks for all of your input. We're weighing our options and I'll be contacting the seller tomorrow to find out about the sd card and accessories. From what y'all have told me here, the kid needs the biggest sd card available.:icon_eek:

I've saved Brad's links to set it back to stock if we get it. I'll let y'all know if we end with it.

Thanks again!
