It installs a program called Superuser which gives you access to things that the manufacturer has locked.
For instance, you know all those apps like Google Books, Amazon mp3, Blockbuster and more that came on your phone and you can't uninstall them? With root you can.
You can also install a custom ROM, undervolt and overclock, wifi tether for free, install different themes and more.
Brad 92,
Thanks for the reply. Rembering that I'm a smart phone Novice, how do I go about rooting my Droid X2? I'm an old guy and my daughter told me that I'm on the "on ramp" to the 21st century when I acquired the smartphone.
I would recommend buy Bloat Freezer from the market to freeze bloatware instead of deleting it. That way if you need to update or anything, you can just unfreeze it.
here you go, since you are new to the android world, this should answer a lot of your questions. many people do not root their phones, it's a personal opinion. Please, please, please take the time to get to know your phone and all that it has to offer first and then decide if you want to root, there are many benefits, but also pitfalls. we'll all be here to help you out which ever way you go. http://www.droidforums.net/forum/ne...-assistance/116993-new-android-check-out.html
