Haha! Ok, completely over-generalizing here and don't really mean to lump ALL people who've rooted their phones together, but it seems to me that there are some out there who're like some people I've known in my day who use drugs.

You use them. You like them. You get something from it that you think is wonderful. Great.

Stop trying to convince everyone that doesn't want to do it, or isn't sure if they want to to it to do so.

If you CAN'T stop, at least give them reason specific to their usage/style/opinions/whatever as to why they SHOULD if you're so sure it'll benefit them.

:soapbox:

And now I'm done.

well than what do you compare the people that are so scared to root?

It really is a simple process and makes the phone run 100x better and faster. I've rooted a couple friends phones thru bluetooth without ever even touching a computer...it is a really really simple process that is REALLY hard to screw up!

Most people that think they screwed up just panic too easily and are too lazy or impatient to just research how to fix what you broke!

I have always used computers for what they are...giant calculators. The software is MEANINGLESS! You can't break a computer by messing up the software, there is ALWAYS a way to fix it!

this thread is LOL

btw, Briankbl i really like your signature :)

Some people are just able to be happy with things the way they are.

Most people that think they screwed up just panic too easily and are too lazy or impatient to just research how to fix what you broke! I can completely agree with that.

My point is to not knock rooting at all. My point is that some people just suggest that a person roots, now matter how simple their problem is.

If you're THAT offended by this thread, I'm guessing you try to convince everyone with a Droid to root it...

I haven't really seen anything that can be done with rooting that has made me feel like going through the steps to deal with it. I bought the Droid because I have experience with Android. I like it. I'm sure I'd greatly enjoy some of the changes I could make by rooting, but it's really not bad the way it is IMO.

Granted, from everything I've read, it's INCREDIBLY hard to screw anything up. But when you've got a new user trying to figure out the most simple of things, the last thing you need to do is give them more to deal with.

I would not go as far as to compare to "drug users"...I mean come on, really?

Got YOU to read it didn't it? Haha!

Rooting is obviously nowhere near as serious to drug use. It's just the first thing that came to mind.

A lot of people are like, "Hey! I rooted my phone. You should do it too. Everyone's doing it. It's the COOL thing to do with your Droid."

Fact of the matter is, it really isn't for EVERYONE and definitely not necessary to enjoy the phone and the OS...

There is an addictive element involved, no doubt. Hacking/rooting/optimizing the phone is awesome.

Someone asked me "how do you like your Droid" and then looked at mine (he had one too) then he says "wow.. how did you set yours up like that?"

Trust me. Once you start playing with things and setting things up the way you like, its pretty addiciting. I always look in the hacks section for new stuff.

Its like crack. :)

I used to smoke quite a bit of weed. I won't lie and I won't deny it. Some of the posts I've seen where people recommend rooting just remind me of some people I know who still smoke and can't seem to smoke alone. They just keep offering and suggesting.

If someone wants to root their phone, there are plenty of posts to get them what they need to do it. There's even a sticky that explains what it is and gives links to do it.

The information is there, but it seems like this is pushed more than anything else.

Really just an observation, but I worded it [maybe slightly intentionally] in a way that I figured would get under some people's skin.

And it looks like it did just a little...
