Rooting - can I undo DL09?

I use a Mac and this over the air update last week has severed my ability to sync my phone to my computer and load up music or unload pictures/video.

I'm willing to dig in to the phone to undo this mess since Verizon and Samsung seem unable to figure out how to release and update that won't kill more features than it adds.

if I do something drastic like install 2.2, will I still have this same problem, or will it work like it did a week ago and I can mount up? Or is there a way to revert to 2.1 stock so I just get my phone back? I don't use the GPS or other features they supposedly fixed so the OTA update doesn't matter to me.

Lets pretend I have no idea what this means and I've never done this before...

what are the odds I can undo the damage done by the last update by installing some other software by someone else. I don't actually want root access, and I never entertained the notion until the update destroyed my ability to sync my phone to my computer.

I can use my wife's PC to do any of this stuff I'm sure, I just want to make sure I'm not opening some pandoras box of hacks. I'm not at all excited about screwing around with the software of my primary communication device.

Do you know what ODIN is? its the easiest way to restore to stock, either Dl01 which the Fascinate came with outta the box or DJ05 which is the update previous to the one you just did, which is DL09.

Stock DL01 through ODIN
Odin Restore files to get you to stock - xda-developers

Stock DJ05 through ODIN
[ODIN] Full DJ05 Odin Package - xda-developers

This is pretty much your only option if you wish to return to the previous state before you accepted the OTA update....

Personally I would flash the DJ05 ODIN package. you will return to bone stock, no root and it has improved GPS capabilities and some other refinements...

ODIN is the ruler of Asgard, duh.

I'll try this, though. Thank you. instructions still are little too complex for me, but I'll probably figure it out.

It's fairly straight forward, if you have any questions just ask....ill b around

So I can totally connect the phone to my wife's laptop (windows 7) and most likely do this ODIN roll back.

Will this delete all the apps I have installed? will it delete any pictures/video? I am going to back up anyway, I'm just mentally preparing myself for a rough afternoon messing with this.
