Rooting HTC Droid Incredible

Hey I've been hearing a lot about rooting phones, and I have been checking up on it but all I hear is that it gives you super access on your phone. I'm a noob at this but am interested. Now my questions are how do root my phone and what are the benefits of rooting what does super access of my phone give me. And thanks in advance.
