Note
- I am personally waiting a little bit longer for a simpler, safer, and more sure-fire method, I'm not in a huge hurry to root quite yet, although it would be nice to get rid of some of this bloatware though. I am hesitant to root before the upcoming OTA update, simply because something important for the phone could be coming with it, functionality/efficiency-wise. I suggest being patient, but if you must insist on rooting now, do as much research as possible on the methods beforehand, and be very VERY careful, you are doing so at your own risk! If you've never done this before, there are several things that can go wrong and issues that can arise. Rooting will void your warranty if you try to take it in to be worked on, and you will also lose all of your data in the process, so be sure to backup. If you are unfamiliar with the process, let some others take the plunge first to get their valuable feedback. With that disclaimer being laid down, good luck rooters and enjoy! As always, I will do my best to keep this thread updated with new developments by editing this first post, so stay tuned for further happenings! I'll repeat, if you can be patient for awhile, there is no hurry to root yet! When the time comes, you will be notified here.

Million dollar questions. well firstwoyld be free hot spot? Second will be with root will wifi tether work for 4G. And data stays at 30?

And that seals the deal.. Thunderbolt for me on the 24th..

Don't you mean the 14th? lol

Annual upgrade for me. BB did it for my D1 but they changed management and policy states it is up to the management of each reatailer store to decide if they will do annual. BB does not profit from annual upgrades so they refused to honor this year. Got to wait for Verizon store.

My upgrade is not until August but my wife for some strange reason was thinking we were not doing gifts for each other on x-mass (but she loves her diamond tennis bracelet) and the Droid X I got her (just because her Eris was so beat) so she is buying the TB for me for x-mass and V-day full reatail. Still hard to believe I'm paying that much for a phone but my daughter is getting my Droid 1 and when my upgrade in August comes I'm sure there will be some pretty sweet dual cores (with unlocked bootloaders) out.

can rooting do this?

The HTC thunderbolt has DLNA. If you root the phone can you fudge with it, to make it work over 4g not just wifi? can you get aps like blockbuster or netflix to work threw dlna if they don't work when the phone is not rooted?

1. Does this mean it's fully unlocked like the OG Droid/Nexus 1?

2. Is the hotspot working with 4G or just 3G? Will it be able to work with 4G later or is that another issue altogether?

I don't know if its the same, but from what I've read so far, the permanent root they did to this pre-production phone is about as good as you can get (so similar level of access/control as those phones), and they don't expect things to be too different with the production model. I'm no expert on this stuff yet, I'm still learning though.

I think it will be both, if not at launch then shortly after with a simple software update. That was one of the issues that could have been a possible cause for a delay. I think I read on another forum somewhere that there was trouble when going back and forth from 3G to 4G or something like that, but that issue was fixed. I don't think we will really know for sure until it comes out though unless blackmanx or some other tester comes in here and gives us an answer.

I would love to see if the MIUI team would look at moving over to the TB. I had to drop it on my Droid1 because of so many problems, but it has such great potential I figure it'll eventually be one of the best ROMs out there.

I went to this chat with the developers, they said that it is fully unlocked like the Droid (OG), but to keep in mind that this was a pre-production unit. They said that the final one shouldn't be much different, however.

They also said that the tethering worked, was 4G, and 3G works too!!

Also they said the release date is the 17th, the 24th is the XOOM.

This has got to be my next phone.
