According to a report at DigiTimes, Samsung plans to put extra competitive pressure on Apple later this year by coinciding the launch of a couple devices around the same time as the next iPhone. Supposedly, a lower priced version of the SGS4 will launch in the third quarter, but that's not all. Samsung supposedly plans to launch the next generation of their hit phablet, the Galaxy Note 3 sometime in the July-August timeframe. Their plan is to take some of the wind out of Apple's launch. Shipments of new iPhones are expected to start at the end of June and reach a peak in August-September, said the sources, adding that shipment volumes of all iPhones are likely to reach 100-120 million units in the second half of 2013.
In preparation for the competition from Apple, Samsung Electronics reportedly plans to launch a low-priced version of its Galaxy S4 in the third quarter as well as a new Galaxy Note 3 in July-August.
Samsung reportedly has adjusted downward its previous goal of shipping 70-80 million smartphones in the second quarter of 2013, but the Korea-based vendor may ship a total of 80 million smartphones in the third quarter, the sources estimated.
