hi all, looking for some support.
I have user who originally had a BB10 with a memory card installed for which he saved Photos and Videos. He then moved to a S7 and Used the same memory card in the S7 the JPEG and Video files worked fine on the S7. He has now moved to a S8 the device see the card and the files but they cannot be opened no matter what app you try. If he takes the card out and puts in back in his old S7 the files are 100% accessible.

Any ideas why the S8 would see the card and files however be unable to open them ?

Welcome to DroidForums, Shaymansyd. That is odd that the S8 recognizes the card and files yet can't display the pictures. The only solution I can think of is to move the pictures and files from the sd card to a pc and then reformat the card for the S8. Once that is done, he can move the pics and files back to the sd card.

Wait, before he does the above, tell him to take a few pics wth his S8 saved to the sd card while the sd card is in the S8. Have him check to see if he is able to view those pics. Then check to see which file folder on the sd card that those pics are stored in. Move all other pics to that folder and then check to see if he can view those pics.

Thanks for your reply, I can only assume it has something to do with the way the BB10 formatted the card originally which the S8 does not like for some reason.

Out of interest do you know in what format type the memory cards get written with ? when in S7 or S8 and formatted via the phone ? I might do some backpedaling research.

Typically, if memory serves me right, I always have formatted as FAT32 and it has worked fine in my phones, except once. One time I had to reformat a card while in the phone in order for the card to be recognized by the phone. I think that was with my Razr Maxx.

One other thing to consider is if the SD card was formatted as Adoptive Internal Storage in the S7 then that card is specially encrypted and tied to that phone. The files would only be available to that phone. That's why many people prefer to setup the card as External Portable Storage, so it can be used in any other device. I think newer versions of Android prompt you for a storage choice when the card is first inserted. Just something else to consider.
