So, the above video is a new commercial meant to show off the design process of the new Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. While watching it, here at HQ we were struck by how much it seems to mimic some of Apple's "Jony Ivy" design process videos of various Apple products.
It struck us as a bit of a "turn the corner moment" considering that Samsung has basically been copying Apple's products for years, but were frequently ahead of the game when it came to creative advertising. It's interesting how both companies have circled around each other:
- First, we recently see Apple finally release devices that look like copies of Samsung products. The iPhone 6 uses a plastic looking design that seems like a throw back to an older Galaxy S model, and the iPhone 6 Plus is the first time Apple created a phablet-sized device, which Samsung basically pioneered.
- Then, Samsung releases the Galaxy S6 which looks very similar to the iPhone 5S, and even includes "premium materials," and a glass back like the previous iPhones.
- Now we see Samsung creating commercials which have a very similar feel and tone to some of Apple's video commercials.
