Samsung Is Buying Harman For $8Billion in Cash

Samsung audio may be getting much better very soon. One of the main complaints with theaxy S3 and now the Galaxy S7 is the terrible speaker quality. This mostly comes from the waterproofing which muffles the sound coming out of the speaker. As some OEMs have focused on various parts of a cell phone's build. The trend started with a focus on display tech. Just about all the OEMs have display tech nailed down. We have seen a focus on camera quality this year with Huawei teaming up with Leica. HTC and ZTE have also focused on sound quality for a while and this year LG decided to bring the first ever Quad dac to a cell phone with the LG V20.

Samsung has announced that they will acquire Harman. For now we don't really know Samsung's intentions for this acquisition. Harman owns several high end audio equipment brands including JBL, Harmon Kardon, Mark Levinson, AKG, Lexicon, Infinity, and Revel. They also license other premium audio brands such as Bowers & Wilkins and Bang & Olufsen. Hopefully this will mean improved sound quality in upcoming smartphones.

This is an interesting story, I have a ZTE projector, with the JBL(Harman) sound, and a Harman Kardon Amp, and JBL Bluetooth speakers, love the products, and Samsung too.
I will definitely follow this story, thanks for sharing DMX.

this is good news for samsung as their audio has been the weak point in their phones since day one, till the batteries fiasco lol.
not sure how harman fans feel about this though, the stock did jump up significantly on the news of take over.

They didn't do this to improve smartphone audio. This is an opportunity for Sammy to get into the connected auto electronics business. HK is a huge player making this a huge opportunity for Sammy..
