Because the Galaxy S7 wasn't good enough!
Samsung made two five-star phones with the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge and a large part of that rating was due to the camera tech - but the Galaxy line's shooting credentials is set to improve even further soon.
Rumor has it that Samsung is already hard at work on a new camera sensor that we may debut on the Samsung Galaxy Note 6 or the Galaxy S8.
PhotoRumors had word of a brand new 1/1.7-inch CMOS camera sensor in development. The highlight is an aperture as wide as f/1.4 compared to f/1.7 aperture on the Galaxy S7.
When it comes to aperture, a smaller number is a better statistic as it means the aperture is wider, more light gets through the lens and creates a better image.
If it ain't broke... fix it
The rumor also suggests the new sensor could up the megapixel count from 12MP on the Galaxy S7 to maybe even 24MP on the new phone.
Samsung is dedicating a lot of time and effort into the camera technology on its smartphones and even though it did well with the Galaxy S7, it clearly won't to stop there.
