screen blacks out when in use

I just got this phone two days ago, so i understand if this is just me misunderstanding the phone, but I would still like to know why it does this...
A few times while i have been using the phone (txting, downloading apps, just customizing my phone) the screen will black out, like when you lock it and the screen goes black, but this time it is unassisted by me. Then I will unlock the screen and it comes back, but then itll black out again. It does this probaby four times in a row then wont do it anymore and goes back to normal, allowing me to continue what I was doing.
I thought maybe it had something to do with the battery life, but this last time i noticed the battery life was completely full and it has been doing it even when my phone is plugged in...

I've seen this happen depending how I am holding the phone because of the in pocket lock out feature.

Same here - you can disable the pocket lock out in settings, or just stay away from the upper left corner of the phone - that's where the sensor is. I've had issues using using the phone in a dark room because that sensor will assume the phone is in a pocket.
