Screen Breaks Easily - Buyer Beware

Had my Droid DNA for 5 days and the screen shattered to pieces. This is my 3rd droid (original, droid x). I loved the phone the first 4 days I had it as I did my previous droids. However, I owned each of my other droids for two years a piece, dropped them countless times and they both were fine with no case. For a screen to shatter so easily on such an expensive phone is a clear indication of a faulty product. A quick check through the DNA forums has shown that this is a common issue for many people who have used the phone and that this product is severely flawed. Buyer Beware!

I dropped mine a few times with a ten dollar silicone case on it and its fine. It breaks easy because the edges of the glass are rounded and do not have plastic slightly raised above it. A simple case to cover the black areas on the edge of the screen provide sufficient protection against minor drops and dings as long as nothing is protruding into the screen. Also a silicone case provides a place to put your SIM tool so you don't lose it. Hope you had insurance.

We have to take more precautions with smartphones nowadays. They are not just phones. I've never dropped my previous phones (Inc2, Inc, Droid X) to wear I shattered the screen but still I get insurance. Not trying to rag on anyone but emphasize that these expensive pieces of equipment need to be properly handled with everyday use and ruggedness should not be a factor in buying a phone unless you work in construction.

Some phones are clearly more fragile than others. Especially a phone without a bezel.

An Otterbox is the way to go

Exactly. Just buy a case. That simple. Won't eliminate the risk but it will sure help the odds of surviving a fall.

So what I'm hearing is that my $500 state of the art piece of electronics that is designed to be used as a mobile device requires a $50 case that not only makes the phone impossible to carry in my pocket, makes the screen significantly less responsive and renders the headphone jack useless in many cases, while at the same time offering no guarantee - from HTC, Verizon or Ottobox - that the phone will be protected and furthermore, offers no incentive for purchasing the case i.e. my insurance rates decreasing. Really great advice guys, thank you.

I'll skip the customer service rant, since it's no secret that Verizon Wireless is among the absolute worst in rewarding customer loyalty and I've already told the story over fifty times, but I would advise anyone to use their American Express card when purchasing a new phone. American Express was willing to go to bat for me and saw this incident and the Verizon Wireless' response as completely unacceptable and were able to refund the money that I spent on the phone. Thank you American Express.

50 bucks? Where you get that. You don't need an expensive otterbox to put on it. Cruzerlite makes a great silicone case for 15 bucks if you can take the time to order it. Nothing is hindered,and is still easy to carry the phone. I hate that ppl knock a phone because they can't take care of them. You woldnt drop your laptop or your tablet would you? Treat it the same. And also,if you paid 600 for your phone,15 bucks shouldnt be that much extra to protect it. If all your gonna do is complain and put down an amazing device all because you can't buy a case,then leave the forum because noone cares.

And as for customer service with the big red v, they do whatever I want them to. Its just a matter of knowing how to talk to them.

When dropped on a hard surface more often than not, a smartphone with a big glass screen will shatter the glass screen, people need to realize that these are not your old flip phone. Every smartphone I have owned has been dressed in a case, I suggest eBay or Amazon for a nice affordable case for your smartphone. It's called cheap insurance for that accidental drop.

I got my otterbox on eBay $27 Otterbox commuter. Fits in my pocket no problem the screen has a normal screen protector.try that the screen responds perfect.
