Screen goes black when watching videos

I have a Motorola X Pure Edition. For the past couple days, I have been unable to watch videos. Whether home made videos or Netflix, a few seconds after the video starts my entire screen goes black. Any ideas what's going on?

To clarify, by go black, my screen actually shuts off but if I tap it several times it wakes up again without needing to put in my passcode.

This only happens during videos? What if you have just a homescreen or image up?

Time it and see if it matches your screen timeout setting. Sounds like a corrupted file not bypassing the screen off time for video apps.
