screen goes out

What can I do when I have a phone call and when I answer the call the screen goes out. so for me to get the screen back I have to take the battery out and put it back in. is there anything I can do to stop this. Someone please help.

Sounds like your proximity sensor is failing. It's actually on the top left, top right is the ambient light sensor. There are some cases out there that block it.

There is an app on the market that will let you test the sensor, Android Sensor Data (probably others too). Get it and try moving a finger over the area just to the left of the speaker (if you look really close you can see a small circle beneath the glass). See if the proximity sensor changes or always says Near or always says Far or always says Init.

If it changes appropriately then there's probably an app that interfering. That'll take some experimenting to determine which one. Try booting into safe mode and placing a call to see if the problem persists with just the core apps. Turn off and turn back on while holding the Menu button on the physical keyboard and power button, hold both until it boots to the lock screen. You should see "safe mode" in the bottom corner.
