Screen is very dim when closed

Last night I went to a concert and had my droid 2 in my jean pocket. My battery was almost dead so I turned it off so I could use it after the show. When I turned it back on, my screen wasn't working properly when it was shut, but if I slid out the keyboard, it worked perfectly fine. Whenever I try to use just the touch screen I can barely see the screen contents. I turned it on and off a couple times and took out the battery but nothing seems to work. Help!!!
