screen splotches

noticed this while playing a game. on a black screen that was lit I found several odd splotches of discoloration. it's almost like a dead screen area but it acts fine. it isn't really visible otherwise but I'm concerned since the return date is nearly up. anyone have this issue? is it worth a return?

I saw the same thing on my Droid razr, considering that I got it on Friday I was really worried. I actually saw it once and didn't see it again after that. I'm curious to know what that is as well.
Did you call Motorola and ask them?

Had on my launch day razr, which had no issues other than some of those screen splotches, returned it back to Costco for a new unit. Second unit looked much better initially but once I was able to run a black screen wallpaper in a dark area I noticed small splatters of splotches again. Since this razr also has no other problems I decided to do some research on the issue and found the issue not to be this phone at all. It appears to be an inherent issue with oled screens. After checking the screen on my buddies galaxy s 2 it has the same issue, maybe slightly less noticeable. I believe its easier to see on the razr because of the thinness of the phone and how tightly everything must be pressed together. No scientific reason for that so I could be totally off :). My suggestion is to hold onto it as its really only visible on black and dimly lit rooms.

Thanks. This was actually a lot of help. I only noticed it once when I was charging the phone. I'm gonna try to see if I can see it again.
It seems from some of the things that I've read that even after replacing the unit the splotches were still there.

Do you think I should replace or hold onto it?

My new Droid 3 had one of these spots. On a black screen it looks like one pixel just will not turn black--it stays white. It seemed to work fine for all other colors.

So, I returned my Droid 3 for a brand new one...

The first thing I did was check for any spots and, guess what? The new phone had about a dozen of these spots! Good grief! I kept the phone. I never notice the spots. I'm happy. Shoulda probably kept the original one though.

My guess is that the pixels in the amoled screen are still holding a slight charge. Unlike LCD that uses a back light the pixels in amoled displays actually light up individually. I remember seeing the same thing on my fascinate. This is just a guess on my part. I'm not entirely sure we are talking about this same thing.

Okay seriously these splotches are bothering me even though they aren't noticeable. I didn't pay for a defective phone that might possibly have problem ls in the future.

Well I plan on getting the extended battery tomorrow(hope it's still half off) and this will be the deciding factor to me whether I made the right decision. If the battery is as good as the reviews I've read and I can use 4g all day w/o going dead then as far as im concerned Bionic blows razr out the water. It wouldn't even be a fair comparison after that. But I wont know till I give it a try...

Did motorola or Verizon ever say anything about these splotches

I read that almost all amoled screens have this problem because they are organic and don't have a backlight like lcd displays... don't know from experience but there are many reports.

Hopefully it won't develop into something worse. i've read people say that but can't really take any ones word for it

Hey, new to the forum. I came across the forum after a search about the screen issues in a low light setting. I was glad to hear that it wasn't just me but at the same time upset to find that all these new devices had issues. Im on my third phone (the first two were black the third is white.) I ended up with this as sort of the lesser of two evils.
