Screen unresponsive

Stock Motorola Droid 1. My sdcard went bad in my Droid X, so I took the sd card out of my Droid 1 to get my X running. I didn't reformat or anything. I just put it in and it seemed to work fine. I called Verizon who immediately replaced my no name card with a scandisk sd card with adapters. I wish I hadn’t took the card out of my Droid 1, but after reading in this forum that others had had trouble getting their cards replaced, and after seeing that the cost was $60, I thought that would be fastest. I received my new scandisk card in two days from Verizon, put it in my Droid X with no problem (however this didn’t fix my rebooting problem with my X - sorry off topic). I put my Droid 1's original scandisk sd card back into my Droid 1 after using it in my Droid X a few days without a reformat or wipe. This is were the problem began. Phone went crazy, programs opening and closing, even typing gibberish into google search field. It was a disaster. I had read that this could happen if you had the wrong version of baseband and OS running so I decided to do a wipe and start from scratch. I used christim’s Getting back to stock (SBF method). I used the RSDlite and the FRG22D.sbf file included there. When my Droid rebooted it did an update immediately, and when it finished it still went crazy. I could get into bootloader, but the battery was dead by this time, and I left it alone for a few days until I had time to read some more. I was planning to use my sister’s phone to recharge my battery, but I found a help topic on how to charge battery by taking battery out and plugged into a/c which worked. It went back into bootloader and I did the same process over again, I still had the problem, but just the far right side of the screen was unresponsive, I could use my keyboard to move around somewhat. I read that rooting and a new rom could take care of this problem, so I rooted using MotoCache1: Root Droid 1 - regardless of OS version, and down loaded Rom Manager, and flashed Peter Alzono’s Gingerbread. I reformatted card before doing so and had clean card. I have the Gingerbread Rom loaded, but I am still having screen and button problems. Am I just out of luck? I wanted to use my Droid 1 as a VOIP phone in Europe this summer. I found a link in Alldoid by “orbatrin” and “cobra2" on how to do VOIP setup for Android 2.3 & 2.2 for your Droid 1. Is there anything that I can do to get my screen back into sink. Some suggested recalibrating your screen, but the Droid 1 doesn’t have that option. I have deleted all nonstock programs and still won't work. Please help. This is what my about phone says Model number: Droid; Android version 2.3.2; Baseband version C_01.43.01P; Kernel version 2.6.32.9-g68eeef5 android-build@apa26#1; build number GPA12.

My situation most closely mimics your -however it seems there is a plethora of this out there

I have flashed between Pete's Bugless and Koush's 6.1.2 and most recently the 'stable" 7.0.2 even tried 6.1.0 - it r e a l l y hated that...

I can get it back on track for short periods - where the screen isn't going haywire - but the right side is still mostly dead - there have been instances where it will return - work for a bit -even in the throes of a breakdown - for one call i'll be able to use 3-6-9 keys

on the other side of the insanity -

I've sat looking at it - untouched on my desk as it not only launched google/ zoomed in out - but placed a call to a contact!!

I cannot understand how there is not more attention to this thread/subject - another slightly longer discussion - w/o resolution appears here

Question, do your phones get exposed to high humidity? I know when I had my og droid that whenever my phone was in a really high humidity enviroment (ie pocket on a hot summer day) when I would try to use my touchscreen it would freakout and open apps and do all sorts of stuff randomly.

Just a thought.

thanks for the reply - no - don't think that's a factor - vast amouts of high stupidity...:motdroidhoriz: I've been doing a whole lot of unscientific 'testing trying to find a variable i can pinpoint - but this is my 1st attempt at looking for others w/ answers - - i really have no idea what i'm doing - but AM learning a bit as i go - most about sleep deprivation... thought it was perhaps - wifi signals-nah- each attempt to wipe dalvik and fix permissions seems to help a bit - must have factory reset a dozen times - switched between to dif sd cards - reformatting them after saving the files to my laptop - tried plugging back in certain chosen back-ups/downloads on to card (that had yielded the best [temporary] results)...redownloading fresh straight from Rom Manager...ssss

Then it sounds just like a faulty device.---------> Replacement

See more of the thread above please-

Is there any chance someone in the know can offer some fix it advice? - I've come to believe the notion that this piece of equipment IS un-brickable - the fumbling I've done and still it holds on -

I'm in an extremely tight spot w/ finances - worst it's ever been -- and am counting on the perks a rooted phone brings to get by.
Would much appreciate some "back up"
Wishing i had the energy to change sig,

I wish I could offer help, but I am in the exact same situation and come seeking help of my own! Every search I've done leads me to people who have the same screen problem, but never a solution. I'm afraid that it is a hardware issue. I bought my Moto Droid the day it came out, November 6, 2009. I do not have the option of exchanging/returning it.

About 2 months ago I started having memory and FC issues on the last ChevyNo1 FROYO ROM. I flashed to his GB, and it seemed to have fixed the issue. About 1 month ago, my screen began acting up. It would be fine for a while, then unresponsive out of nowhere. I get the phantom touches and crazy results, and I get the unresponsiveness that does not allow me to swipe answer a phone call or swipe or menu key unlock the lockscreen. I have flashed numerous ROMs and kernels, hoping it was a software issue, thinking it GB, but it is not. I had the same problems on a stock FROYO ROM.

The weird part is, I can restore a ROM, or do a clean wipe and install a ROM, and it will perform beautifully for a half a day to a day. Then the screen crap starts, and eventually my phone is paralyzed.

I hate to say it, but I believe it has to be a malfunction in the physical screen. I've had my Moto Droid for 18 months with no issues, but I'm not eligible for a discounted upgrade for a few more months, and I'm at a loss on what to do until then. Or until the Galaxy S II is released on Verizon...

to dinc44 -thanks for the input - I have had (knock on wood) a few problem free days w liquid0624 -- aside from the dead area to the screens right - none of the other shenanigans have been popping up - I started w the 1.65 and have flashed up to the latest build so far so good - have managed to find a few ways to work around the issues that pop up - give me a shout if i can help

Is there ANY way to use the physical keyboard for all input and navigation? With the right settings, I can at least unlock the screen with the physical MENU key. But even then, there's only so much navigation and selection one can do with the D-PAD. What's the worst is not having a physical BACK key. Oh, and the screen going crazy.

PM or better still we'll chat if you want

I gotta tell ya - since this recent ROM -it's been pretty livable -w/o the screen going wacky -- it give ya time to "work around"
there is an op for no sceen lock -at least in this ROM i have 3 separate bars on the bottom which i only put 3 widgets on (the left side, since the right[clode to middle] is dead) - anwering calls w/o a bluetooth is tough to impossible - making them from memory or the keypad is a viable...

I thought I was running 1.65. I just checked, and it says 1.7. Regardless, my phone is hit and miss. One day, it is perfect. It is fast, with quick response, no screen issues. Then the next day, maybe the same day, it goes crazy, and it is random. I have my lock screen set so I can hit the physical menu button to get through, and I have Power Strip set up so that I can use it with the physical keyboard if the screen is unresponsive and pull it up by pressing the physical search key. The worst is when the phantom touches are so bad that not even that method works, and I have to turn off the screen before the phone does something irreversible. The most crippling thing is not having a physical BACK button! When that thing doesn't work, I'm screwed.

I've settled w/ Liquid's 1.9 stock kernel-have toyed w/ the latest build/ throwing in the corcor kernel-not working for me-things start going wonky-have just resigned myself to living w/o the right side of the screen -gave myself seven screens 5 column set up - so i can use three on the left side of each if i choose - w/ full rotation i can flip it to use most of the notification bar put a couple things on top I don't need and keep them to the right- turning the phone up side down if i do need them...with any luck at all my financs will turn around by the time big red gives us a dual core w. a bootloader someon will find the way into...
