Searching contacts

This is the single, most frustrating thing about my Droid 2 thus far. When I press the phone button to bring up the dialer app, then go to the contacts tab, why can't I search contacts from here? Or is there something simple I am missing?

Yes, there is something very simple that you are missing. When you go to contacts, hit the menu button, the search option is there.

Thank you. I guess my mistake is doing the intuitively obvious by tapping the search button.
