Searching contacts

When I am in contacts and I hit menu, then search, a little box pops up that says "Type to Search". You then have to tap in the box at the top to get the keyboard to pop up. Why doesn't the keyboard come up by default when searching contacts? Is there a setting I'm missing?

I believe mine works the same way also. I wish there was a feature that you could start typing (on the physical keyboard) from the homescreen, and it searches into your contacts. Maybe that's a setting?

Well when you start typing on the home screen it searches averything: the internet, your apps, your contacts. So if you enter the contacts full name they should pop up.

Edit: nevermind you don't even have to enter the full name just start typing it and scroll down. They should be at the bottom.
