selecting a contact from messaging

Hello all,

i have a problem,
when n messaging and trying to send a new message when i select the 'to' field nothing happens

on the droid site ( DROID - Messaging) it says

"Tip: Begin typing your contact in the To field and a list of contacts will display. Add a "," after each contact to send to multiple contacts."

but when i start typing in the contacts name nothing happens it only puts in the names number equivalent (chris = 24747)
it is very difficult to send new messages this way
does anybody know of a solution to this problem?

Make sure the number of the person you are trying to text is marked as "mobile" in contacts

contacts > person > menu > edit contact
This option should be mobile and nothing else in order for it to work, as I understand it.
