setCPU help... need better battery life

I recently overclocked to 1.1 ghz using a chevy's kernel... the battery leaves a bit to be desired, all the options of setcpu are on default, what do some of the options do? (on demand, conservative, etc...) What are some options recommended for saving battery life?
