Signal strength with cm7 BETTER?!?!?!

Is this possible? I uses to always have 1x with one bar in my room now I always have 3g with at least 3! Granted my signal strength reads -100dbm I've noticed faster downloads and browsing so what's up with this? Never heard of a rom doing this
