Sim card question

My Droid 3 stopped working, so my friend gave me his old Droid 2. I put my sim card in it, and the phone seems to recognize it, but I can't make calls/texts or go on the internet. Is there anything I can do?

which d2, go to menu/system/about phone/system version 4.5.629, or something else

which carrier, at&t, verizon, t-mobile......

It was verizon, and I fixed it. I just needed to do a full reset and set it from there. Thanks!
