Single ringtone for individule contact?

Hello everyone! New to this forum. New to the Droid 2. My question is this. Is it possible to set a ringtone for a contact so when they text, call, IM, or post on facebook/myspace, that ringtone applies(ie: when my girl calls, her favorite song plays. when she text me, the same song plays. when my sister IMs me, it plays the same tone as when she calls)? I had several old phone that did this. But it seems that these "smartphones" just dont have that ability?? Am I wrong or just that ignorant? Someone told me to use handcent or sms alert, but these do what the phone already does in terms of assigning ringtones.

Sadly I don't think you can do this. But welcome to the forums regardless. Hey who knows there may be an app out there for it but I haven't heard of one.

Actually there is an app out there that does this. I don't recall off the top of my head what it is called though. Search the market place ask around a little bit more. Someone on here will see this and remember those do a search on the forums

Go to contacts
Choose contact
Select Menu
Select Edit
Go ALL the way down to the bottom
Select Additional Info
Scroll Down to Call Handling
Select a ringtone for that contact

**You can also send certain callers directly to voice mail

That changes the ringtone but as far as I understood op was looking for a way to make that tone sound for any notifications about a particular contact.

Actually, with the latest update, handcent does just what I wanted. Of coarse I have to set the tone in 2 different areas. But at it dose allow a specific tone for any for of contact from a singular contact!

I tryed this does not work if im trying to add a ring tone for some one in my google contact??? im i dunb i doing some thing wrong? nm thought this was samsung danm

setting individual rings

I am also new to Droid 2. When I try the following:
Go to contacts
Choose contact
Select Menu
Select Edit
Go ALL the way down to the bottom
Select Additional Info
Scroll Down to Call Handling
Select a ringtone for that contact

The additional info item is "greyed out" and I can't seem to change anything. If i try to select it, there is a little triangle on the right that changes from facing right to facing down, but that's all that happens.
So I still haven't been able to give a person a unique ring tone.
Any help would be appreciated.

How to edit ringtone for individual contact

Assign a ringtone to a specific contact:

• Press Contacts icon on homescreen or tap on Contacts application from the Applications Tray
• Press the specific contact
• Press the menu key
• Touch Edit. Clear keyboard with Back key.
• Scroll down and Press > at end of Additional info to open more options
• Then touch V (down) icon to go down to Ringtone
• Choose a Phone ringtone from the list and tap OK to set.
• Press Save to save to contact.
• Personalized ringtone will appear in contact info screen.

**Also, you can choose for the contact to go directly to Voicemail.
