sliding keyboard types all caps intermittently

my droid 2 has been capitalizing my typing on the physical (non-touchscreen) keyboard, about 2-3 times a day, and no, i dont have caps or alt-lock on, the only annoying remedy is to pull the battery, and that seems to fix it for a couple of hours...
help please
