SMS Message Notification Length

I have Motorola DROID A855. I am trying to find where I can set the sound notification length/repeat for SMS messages I receive. I had a BlackBerry 8330 and I could set the number of times the selected tone would sound when I received a text message. Does the DROID have this function? I am frequently on call for work and I depend heavily on this notification to wake me up. I am afraid with just one time of the sound notification playing for incoming text messages, I will miss the text if I am sleeping. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use Handcent for my messaging app. You can select your notification as sound or music. Perhaps a nice loud and long Metallica song would suffice.
