SMS/MMS not working on Messaging? Until 2nd message sent

I am going crazy my SMS and MMS on messaging or in Handcent still when I recieve one I need to let the sender to resend in order for it to open.

Um what? The sender has to send two to you? Or you have to send two?

example my friend sent me a text with an image 7kb and it says downloading but never opened I text him back to send again and he did and it opened.
