SMS Text message pictures gone

I was looking at some old texts and noticed the pictures within those texts are gone. Where are they stored? Galaxy S22

I believe you would have to save them from the text messages to your phone storage for the photos to save. I don't think they save automatically when you just receive a photo into your text message app
