So what happens to unsent SMS text messages? How to force re-send?

This has happened a couple times already (on my Droid X, not rooted or anything), I attempt to send a text message and a few seconds later a notification message says something like "unable to send text message." But now what? I thought by going somewhere with better signal strength would prompt anything in my "outbox" to send again. But nothing happened (no matter how many bars I have). Each time I've had to re-type the message and send it again. (Note, I have no trouble transmitting 99% of my text messages, this only seems to happen when I have spotty coverage.)

What happens to these unsent text messages (are they stuck in some kind of limbo or purgatory forever)? Can I manually force them to re-send?

Ugh!

<-- so embarrassed. Thank you. I keep forgetting there are so many hidden options with LONG PRESS (I'm coming from a Q9M LOL).

So there are no traditional inbox, outbox, drafts folders in Droid X's default text app?

And it won't automatically resend once I'm getting good signal strength? (So if I compose 5 text messages in airplane mode, then turn on my phone after landing, the 5 messages will just sit there unless I long-press to manually send them?)

If you compose in airplane mode, I think they stay in draft unless you attempted to send knowing you would get the failure to send due to no service...if they are in "draft" form (show up in the main text screen as paper/pen icon), just click to open and then press send when you are connected again to service.

What about txts that take 2+ minutes to decide they are not going to send? i know if it takes more than 10 seconds it wont send. on my old phone i could just hit the "hang up" button and stop it from trying, since I know it isnt going to go, it just locks up my phone until it decides it wont send. (Locks up as in: any other txts will not send until the other one says it wasnt sent, or your pandora stops, other functions still work, you can still play games waiting for the phone to stop sending)

Is there a way to cancel a message while it is sitting there spinning its wheels?

not sure anyone cares, but i found something that works... click-hold the message that is hanging, and in the popup click "Delete message". it worked this last time, hope it will continue to work!!

Thought I was the only one with the text hanging issue. I find it really bad when I'm trying to send a text and I'm receiving one at the same time I hit send. It hangs and just spins and spins...

Yes, i find this is what USUALLY causes it (but there are a few times when that isnt the problem)
Anyway, try tap-holding the offending message and click delete message! It worked the last 3 times, hope it continues to work
