It seems that the Google Goggles/Project Glass might be farther along than the press guessed. The Google Glass Explorer Edition just showed up in an FCC filing yesterday, and several specs were detailed for the potentially disruptive technology. For the most part, the specs just echo what we have seen already, but here's a recap,
  • Broadcom 2.4GHz 802.11 b/g WiFi radio
  • Bluetooth 4.0 + LE module
  • Also includes an "integral vibrating element that provides audio to the user via contact with the user's head," (this is most likely the "bone-conducting" element we reported on previously)
At this rate we could actually see an actual retail product by the middle of this year or even sooner.

What is most intriguing about this device is not found in its own initial application, but rather in the evolution of the tech in the future. This concept could eventually invalidate the need to have a separate device that we carry in our pockets to connect with others. Of course, if it turns out to be a tremendous flop, then it could also end up on the trash-heap of failed tech history.

For the most part, it looks like this has some serious potential to be the next big technical revolution, or at least the baby-steps toward it.
