Since Sony Ericsson graced us with the good news today that they would be unlocking the bootloader on their newer Xperia line of Android smartphones, we decided to share some more on the upcoming Sony Ericsson Xperia Play.
Initial reports indicate that the Xperia Play will be coming to Verizon in April, although other reports also indicate that it will show up on many or even potentially all of the carriers. In the meantime, here is some info about some of the games on the phone.
First, the phone comes with 6 classic PlayStation One games preloaded. They are, Fifa 10, Crash Bandicoot, The Sims 3, Star Battalion, Bruce Lee Dragon Warriors, and Tetris. Their will initially be 50 more downloadable games available for purchase that will range in price from $2 dollars to $16 dollars. They will be mostly classic PS One titles but may include new titles as well. Furthermore, the amount of game titles is expected to grow over time.
Second, 'Gameloft' has just announced 10 of its games that will be immediately available for the Xperia Play. They are:
I suspect the sequel to this phone will be a serious powerhouse, but that is just pure speculation for the future. This phone seems to be a niche product for Sony Playstation fans, but it is also probably a transition product. Portable gaming devices like the PSP will probably be eventually phased out by the coming onslaught of Android superphones. This phone fits neatly in a place for parents to offer a gaming device/smartphone for their kids. What do you guys think?
