Sony just pulled the cloth off two new phones for the future. They are called the Xperia Acro S and the Xperia Go. Both are "semi-rugged" devices, meaning they are designed to be water, scratch and dust resistant. The Xperia Go is a mid-range device, but the Xperia Acro S has some fairly stout higher-end features. Here's a breakdown of both:

Xperia go
  • 3.5” Reality Display powered by Mobile BRAVIA Engine gives razor sharp clarity
  • 5MP fast capture camera goes from sleep to snap in just over a second
  • Scratch resistant mineral glass display with wet finger tracking
  • Highest level of dust and water resistance in a smartphone – IP67 Rating
  • 1Ghz dual core processor gives consumers super fast performance
  • Launching on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), upgradeable to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
  • Available in black, white and yellow colours

Xperia acro S
  • 4.3” 720p HD Reality Display powered by Mobile BRAVIA Engine gives razor sharp clarity
  • 12MP fast capture camera goes from sleep to snap in just over a second with a single key press
  • PlayStation™ Certified
  • Full 1080p HD video recording and 720p HD front camera
  • Scratch resistant mineral glass display with wet finger tracking
  • IP55 and IP57 Ratings for dust and water resistance
  • 1.5Ghz dual core processor gives consumers super fast performance
  • Launching on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
  • Available in black, white and pink colours

Sony just keeps cranking out amazing phones. Along with all these new devices, they are one of the fastest OEMs to update their products to the latest versions of Android. How many of you guys would consider a Sony phone? I wonder if Sony will be one of the five manufacturers that Google will be working with later this year for the 5 Google Nexus devices...

The acro S looks to be an amazing phone, let's just hope it gets here soon before it already becomes outdated.

I like it!

The Xperia Acro S looks excellent! Yes, I would buy from Sony in a heartbeat. I think they do a good job with their mobile devices and in the last year they have been excellent at updating their phones!

I know Sony was working on a phone with an S4 that has the Adreno 320 GPU. Does anyone know if this is it?

Any chance this will have a 3300mAH battery?!?! That's one reason I'm still kind of waiting on the Fighter/Razr HD. I love the way Moto realized that phones just need bigger batteries and they figured out how to do it without making the phone huge!

This sure looks like a contender though. I like the way Sony generally uses LCD displays and the Bravia display sounds great - I love my Bravia TV at home:)

the Acro S looks pretty slick, I'll definitely be looking at it when it's finally released, being dust and water resistant is very nice as well.

Finally someone is making a near top tier rugged android device! Now if only it comes to verizon with an unlocked/unlockable bootloader! I wish my Nexus were water proof.

Soon my son soon. Im sure that....one company will soon start doing the nexus.

Definitely still have my attention with these. Odds are we won't be seeing Quad core offerings from anyone in the near future anyone with the requirements of LTE at the moment so this looks to definitely be a phone that can get anyone through the next two years. Shipping with ICS, great looks, great specs. Add to that Sony Dev support and Beta Roms and I'm very interested.
