Sound Strangeness

So my Droid (original Droid) has been doing strange things with the sound lately. It distorts the sound for the system sounds--haven't checked other sounds. Rings are messed up, notifications are messed up, etc. Have to restart the phone to get it to stop but then it starts again eventually.

Any ideas?
