Spontaneous reboot. Way to tell why?

Just sitting here at work when I noticed the X suddenly pop up on the M screen. I thought "Uh oh!" but waited and watched it boot up normally. It was just sitting there, no LED blinking, not touched at all and last time I used it was a half hour before that to check the outside temp.

So, I let it finish booting up, then went into ALogCat to see if the logs it displays showed any error but nothing in the log was indicative of a fatal error causing a reboot. Just normal stuff as far as I can tell.

Is there then any way to tell why the phone just rebooted on its own? Could this have been a forced reboot by one of the apps that is set to automatically update? If so, shouldn't that show up in a log?

Interesting.

I have had it happen to me once or twice. I wouldn't sweat it. The way the processes run on these things it was something corrupt in one of them and it decided to reset itself.

All in all it is probably a good thing. Its a way of the phone taking care of itself. I wouldn't sweat it until it becomes repetitive.

if you see it happening at least once a day, i would do a hard reset. it was happening to me also. sometimes when i was slide to unlock, it would just freeze and reset. so on tuesday i did a hard reset and restored all my apps, and havent had the problem since. i hope im not jinxing myself by saying this.

My X also does that occasionally but it has never be a problem that has cause me any inconvience or anything. I wouldn't worry about it.

Same here. Probably once a week or so it does that. I'm not worried right now. If it becomes more progressive, then I'll look further.

Thanks for the input. This is the first time I've seen it happen so was just wondering. If it happened once a week or more, I'd sure like to know why it happens and make it stop!

I'll ignore it for now.

In answer to your question, though, I'm not sure if there are logs you can look at or not. I've seen mention of logs in some of the rooted X forums, but I've not dwelved into it that much.

Same here

I'm up to 2 to 3 reboots a week. I will try the hard reset as suggested, but I am skeptical. It seems that a crash log is a basic tool for any computer. Sometimes I feel that we've gone back 20 years in app development.

Having the same issue myself, reboots on it's own, sometimes while I'm using it, other times while it is idol. Sometimes a few times a day.

Only new app I've installed lately is the WoW Auction House app. Hope that's not the problem but if others have it and are crashing it might be.
